A practice that invests in the clinician, not just the caseload.
BIPS is a group practice in Brooklyn and Manhattan. We hire early-career therapists and then actually train them — because depth-oriented work is difficult, and nobody arrives able to do it alone.

What we actually provide
Most job posts promise supervision and support. Here is what those words mean here, in specifics you can hold us to.
Supervision that develops you
Early-career clinicians get roughly eight hours a month — weekly individual plus group — with licensed clinical psychologists. Hours count toward LCSW and LMHC licensure. Fully licensed staff choose their own supervision and consultation beyond their training years.
$1,500 a year for training
Every clinician has a continuing education budget to spend on the specialty they want to build — EMDR, IFS, DBT, EFT, perinatal, gender care, whatever direction the work is pulling you.
A billing team, not a billing task
Benefits verification, claims, superbills, Good Faith Estimates, and the reconciliation insurance always creates — our administrative team runs all of it. You collect the copay. That's the whole of your billing duty.
Clinical freedom
We are integrative and psychodynamic at the core, but you are not handed a protocol. Bring your own training, your own theory, and your own personality into the room. We hire for curiosity, not compliance.
Support across the whole arc
Licensure, first full caseload, specialization, new parenthood, the year everything outside work goes sideways. Benefits continue through parental leave. We plan for these seasons instead of pretending they don't happen.
Referrals that fit you
An intake coordinator matches clients to clinicians deliberately. You build a caseload in the areas you're developing rather than taking whoever calls next.
The training is the business model.
BIPS offers steeply reduced fees to clients who can't pay full rate. That is only possible because early-career clinicians deliver a lot of that care — which is only defensible if those clinicians are supervised properly. The supervision isn't a perk we tacked on. It's the thing that makes the whole practice hold together.
Which means your development isn't a cost centre here. It's load-bearing.
Where you might fit
Clinical internships
Placements for students from NYU, Columbia, Hunter and other city programs. SIFI-certified supervisors, real caseloads, and supervision proportionate to how much you're being asked to carry.
Internship openingsStaff therapist, pre-licensure
The core of our team. Weekly individual and group supervision toward LCSW or LMHC, a CE budget, a caseload built around what you're developing, and admin handled by admin.

Join the team, or come to us for consultation on complex presentations. Licensed staff choose their own supervision and consultation, and many go on to supervise here themselves.
Consultation & supervisionSpecial Topics group
A recurring clinician group led by Zach Sapolsky, PhD — focused study and discussion of a different clinical topic each cycle. Frequently open to the public by RSVP, not only to BIPS staff.
Special TopicsPractice consultation
For clinicians going independent: structure, fee-setting, insurance panels, boundaries, and the business side nobody taught you in graduate school.
Practice consultationWho tends to do well here
We are a small practice with strong opinions and very little hierarchy. That suits some people and not others.
- You want to be supervised, not just signed off on
- You're interested in what's underneath the symptom, not only in managing it
- Affirming care is how you already practise, not a box you tick
- You'd rather build one specialty properly than take everything
- You can say "I don't know what's happening in this case" out loud
- You want a career you can still be doing in fifteen years
Common questions
Do supervision hours count toward licensure?
Yes. Supervision is provided by licensed clinical psychologists and licensed supervisors, and counts toward LCSW and LMHC licensure in New York. We have SIFI-certified supervisors for MSW interns.
Is it W-2 or 1099?
Our clinical staff are W-2 employees. Ask us about benefits, malpractice coverage and specifics for your role when you reach out — those vary by position and hours.
How much of the billing falls on me?
You collect the copay. Everything else — verification, claims, superbills, Good Faith Estimates, chasing insurers — is handled by our billing team.
Do I have to work in the office?
Most clinicians are hybrid. We have offices in Greenpoint, Union Square and Midtown West, and telehealth across New York. Some roles are virtual only.
Can I bring my own modality?
Yes. The practice is integrative and psychodynamic at its base, and clinicians here work with CBT, DBT, EMDR, AEDP, IFS, EFT, somatic and harm-reduction approaches. Your CE budget exists to deepen whatever direction you're going.
Can I attend the Special Topics group if I don't work at BIPS?
Frequently, yes — sessions are often open to the public by RSVP. Get in touch and we'll let you know what's coming up.
