Finding the right therapist
in New York City is hard.
We make it easier.
At BIPS, we do the matching work for you — connecting you with a therapist whose training, approach, and availability fit what you're actually dealing with. In Brooklyn, Manhattan, and across New York via telehealth.
The search itself can be
its own kind of exhausting
Scrolling through directories, trying to decode who specializes in what, wondering if this person will actually understand your life — it's a lot. Especially when you're already dealing with something hard.
At BIPS, we take that burden off you. Our intake team listens carefully to what you're looking for and matches you with a clinician who fits — someone whose training, lived experience, and schedule actually align with what you need. You don't have to guess. We've done the work of building a team we trust, and we match you to them thoughtfully.
Most of our therapists are supervised by licensed clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed mental health counselors who receive ongoing specialized training and case consultation — staying current with the research, invested in their clinicians' development, and committed to a high standard of care. We're a practice that takes learning and growing seriously, and we think that makes a meaningful difference for the people we work with.
From reaching out to
your first session
We've made getting started as simple as possible. You shouldn't have to work hard to get help.
A brief message is enough. Our intake coordinator follows up within 24–48 business hours — no forms to fill, no pressure.
We pair you with a therapist whose clinical approach, background, and availability fit your situation — not whoever happens to have an opening.
Before committing to anything, you speak with your matched therapist. No obligation — just a chance to see if it feels right.
Sessions are 45–60 minutes, typically weekly. We go at your pace. We're not going anywhere.
Whatever you're navigating,
we've worked with it before
Our therapists work with a wide range of concerns. You don't need a diagnosis or a clear presenting problem to start — a sense that something isn't working is reason enough.
Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic, and the kind of worry that never quite turns off — even when things look fine from the outside.
Including the quiet, functional kind — where you're managing but not really living. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support.
Childhood trauma, relational trauma, complex PTSD. Including things that happened so long ago you're not sure they still count — they do.
Questions of who you are, where you belong, and how to live in a way that feels true — including racial, cultural, gender, and sexual identity.
Patterns in how you connect — or disconnect — from the people in your life. Intimacy, conflict, dependency, loneliness, and family dynamics.
Losing someone, yes — but also losing a relationship, a sense of self, or a future you had imagined. Grief takes many shapes.
Moves, career shifts, new parenthood, divorce, emerging adulthood. Even good change can be disorienting. Therapy helps you navigate it with intention.
Treated with evidence-based ExRP by therapists with specialized training — not just familiarity.
Therapy focused on understanding yourself — not on forcing compliance with expectations that were never designed with you in mind.
Approaches chosen for you,
not applied as a formula
Most BIPS therapists work from a psychodynamic foundation and layer in specialized modalities based on what you're actually dealing with. They go deep in their areas of training — and many hold advanced certifications beyond their license.
We explore the patterns, relationships, and unconscious processes connecting your past to your present. Because understanding what's actually driving things is usually the first step toward changing it.
For trauma and distressing memories that feel stuck. EMDR helps the brain fully process what it hasn't been able to — reducing the emotional charge of painful experiences at their root.
Works with the different "parts" of your inner world — the critic, the protector, the part that shuts down — building genuine self-compassion rather than fighting yourself.
Healing through the therapeutic relationship itself — using emotion and connection to create corrective experiences in real time, especially for people who have felt unseen or misunderstood.
Practical, structured approaches for reshaping unhelpful thought patterns and treating OCD. ExRP is the gold-standard treatment for OCD — and our therapists who use it are trained in it specifically, not just familiar with it.
Therapy that takes
your whole life seriously
Our therapists bring their own humanity to this work — including real lived experience across race, culture, gender, sexuality, immigration, and identity. They understand what it means to navigate the world in a body and community that isn't always treated equally.
At BIPS, how power and systemic context shape mental health isn't a side conversation — it's part of how we practice. We think that matters. We also think it's not something to make a big deal about. It's just how good therapy works.
You don't need to be in crisis.
Curiosity is enough to start.
Our clients are adults at all stages of life. What they share is a sense that something could be different — and a willingness to explore it.
Therapists who understand racialized stress, cultural identity, and the weight of systemic experience
A space that is genuinely affirming — you shouldn't have to educate your therapist about your life
The particular complexity of navigating between cultures, family expectations, and your own sense of self
And want something deeper, more specialized, or simply a better fit this time
Looking fine from the outside while the inside is a different story entirely
New city, new relationship, new loss — change that is bigger than it looks
That uncertainty is a perfectly fine place to start. Many of our best relationships begin there.
If the process of finding a therapist has already worn you out — that's exactly what we're here for
The emotional weight of infertility, ART, IVF, donor conception, and family planning decisions — in a space that holds all of it without judgment
Let us do the
hard part for you.
Reach out and tell us a little about what you're looking for. Our intake team will take it from there — carefully, and without any pressure.
