Internship Program
at Brooklyn Integrative Psychological Services (BIPS)
Thoughtful training. Real mentorship. A place to grow into the clinician you want to become.
Starting your clinical training can feel exciting — and intimidating. At BIPS, we remember what that felt like. Our internship program is designed to support you as a developing clinician while inviting you into a community of therapists who are deeply committed to their clients, their community, and each other.
We are New Yorkers serving New Yorkers — people with full lives, layered identities, and real-world stressors. Our team reflects the communities we work with: thoughtful, diverse, socially aware clinicians who care deeply about equity, dignity, and systemic change.
If you’re looking for a training experience that values both excellence and humanity, we’re glad you’re here.
Please read the following and reach out using the form below!

Who We Are
Brooklyn Integrative Psychological Services (BIPS) is a group practice of over 30 licensed and pre-licensed psychotherapists and counselors, a small administrative staff, and interns. We provide psychotherapy to adults, children, adolescents, and couples across a wide range of clinical concerns. Currently, we hold supervisory licenses in NY, NJ, MA, and OR.
Our approach is integrative and whole-person focused. We consider:
Psyche
Culture and identity
Environment
Social context
Reality-based problems
We believe therapy does not happen in a vacuum — and neither does training.
Each clinician at BIPS brings their authentic self into the room. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all therapist. We believe in helping you develop your own voice, grounded in strong clinical skills and ethical integrity.
Our Values
Our internship program is built on the same values that guide our clinical work every day.
Hope
We believe people can grow and change — including clinicians. You do not need to be “fully formed” to be here. You need to be open, thoughtful, and willing to learn.
Wellness
Mental health matters. We believe everyone deserves access to care — including therapists. We normalize support, consultation, and community within our team.
Integrity
We practice transparency, consistency, and ethical responsibility. We hold high standards — and we provide the supervision and guidance to help you meet them.
Generosity
We invest a lot of time and energy in training our interns and staff. We want you to ask questions. We want you to think critically. We want you to feel supported.
Teaching
Training is central to who we are. We provide supervision, mentorship, and learning opportunities designed to help you grow into a confident, competent clinician.
Our Commitment to Social Justice & Systemic Change
We recognize that the mental health system has not served all communities equitably. Marginalized and underrepresented groups continue to face systemic barriers to care.
As a practice, we believe it is not enough to acknowledge this — we must actively work toward change.
At BIPS, we:
Provide equitable services without discrimination or harassment
Treat every client with dignity and respect
Engage in ongoing conversations about power, identity, and systemic inequity
Encourage personal and professional growth around social justice
Intentionally build a diverse team of clinicians and interns
We are committed to transparency and accountability. We welcome open dialogue — even when conversations are uncomfortable. Growth often lives there.
What the Internship Experience Feels Like
We know internships can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to create an environment that is structured but supportive, challenging but not isolating.
Interns at BIPS are integrated into our group practice for a full academic year (or as designated by their graduate program). You are not an afterthought — you are part of the team and treated as such.
You can expect:
Individual and group supervision
A wide range of clinical exposure with oversight
Collaborative team consultation
Clear expectations and feedback
Mentorship from clinicians who remember being in your shoes
We’ve hosted interns since 2020 and have partnered with programs including Columbia University, New York University, Fordham University, Wake Forest University, Prescott College, and Syracuse University, as well as doctoral trainees from LIU Post and Pace University.
Many (approximately 90%) of our interns choose to continue with us after their training year and complete their licensure hours at BIPS.
What We Look For
We review applications carefully, focusing on alignment and potential.
We consider:
Academic preparation
Clinical experience
Theoretical orientation and openness to learning
Ability to work collaboratively
Commitment to ethical practice
Curiosity and growth mindset
You don’t need to know how to be a therapist on your first day. We’re looking for thoughtfulness, humility, and readiness to engage. A good sense of humor is also helpful!
The Interview Process
Selected applicants will be invited to interview in person or virtually.
You may meet with:
Supervisors and administrators
A current intern or staff
We aim to notify applicants about interview status within one week of receiving a complete application.
Interviews are conversations. We want to learn about you — and we want you to learn about us.
A Place to Begin — and Possibly Stay
Interns may apply to continue at BIPS under supervision following their training year. After any level of licensure, clinicians may continue as full employees. We also offer full, comprehensive benefits and a clear path toward practicing independently.
We believe in building long-term professional relationships and investing in the future of our field.
